Session 4

Overall I think I liked the reading we completed this time from Presentation Zen the best. I really like the emphasis on being prepared, rehearsing, but also reminding the presenter to walk away from the mic/ podium and really engage with the audience. I also like the idea that Garr emphasizes about being able to connect with and relate to the audience and being flexible.

In my experiences, being flexible and adapting to the reactions of the audience are a way to reach more people, and make the presentation more memorable for them.

I also thought using Prezi was interesting, but wonder if it would be hard to use for students who don't have 'school email addresses.'

I thought that the tocbox was an interesting experience last week as well. I think it might neat to have an online review for students-to-students. I think I'm going to see if my ap kids have an interest in using amongst themselves.

  1. I agree with you about Garr Reynold's comments on how to be a good presenter: the technology shouldn't lead the discussion, the presenter's interaction with the audience should. I also liked his tips about keeping the lights on and making a point to end early.
The first time my study group tried the Tokbox it was pretty frustrating--lots of echos and delays. Since then we've been sure to all use headsets and found it a great way to communicate considering one of us is in Sheboygan and the rest are spread across Milwaukee. Louis has definitely given us some good tools to use.

  2. I agree with you on being prepared and trying to connect with the audience. I think the mindfullness is very important. Both of these ideas could relate to teaching too. If students detect that you are not prepared or don't care, or are not trying to make a connection with them, I think they would be less likely to listen to you and certainly learn anything. I personnaly got more from the design part of the book than from the delivery. I was constantly thinking about how Garr makes it seem that Japan is this perfect place and that the whole world needs to operate like they do. I also liked the prezi but I still need to familiarize myself with it more.
