Session 5

It was interesting seeing people's Prezis. I think if I were to do mine again, I'd have the text first then the photo. Or, I'd have a handout that could guide my presentation.

The work with the Pecha Kucha, turned out well. I used the handy iPod touch stopwatch to figure out the time. I'm interested in using the Voice Thread with students and the 20/20s presentation format. I'd also use my example to model it. I'd also have to inform kids about what to click so they can share...so they don't run into some of the issues I did.

Our talk went well, and I think our paper will be good. I'm excited, because I think I've read a lot and have a lot of action based research experience with iMovie.

I am also in the process of revising rubrics I already had for students films. I usually do a large story board assignment prior to the films, and use a different rubric, so I'm wondering if I have to change my film grading rubric, to incorporate that initial storyboard step.

  1. You make a good point about including the storyboarding and it being a part of the rubric. I did not include this in my rubric for making a Pecha Kucha, but I think it is probably something that should be in there. Thank you.

I have also been thinking about how I might use Voicethread for the Pecha Kucha assignment and the only thing that I don't like is that you need an outside stopwatch like your iPod Touch (I had to use an actual stopwatch). I was getting kind of confused and tangled up when I did it. "OK, I have to hit the record button, then start talking once it says it can hear me, then I can only talk until 16 seconds because it has the extra 4 seconds (eventhough I could have changed it to 0 - that seemed like it would have complicated it more), then as I'm reading and watching the stopwatch I have to make sure the mouse in on the stop recording button." That's what made it a bit of a hassle for me, but I'm sure I could have simplified if I had looked around and tried some different things.

  2. Yes, I enjoyed seeing everyone's Prezi as well. I learned at one time that it is good re-evaluate the rubric you use and how it is important to let students know what you are looking for. And now, with all the additional expectations we place on students seems like the rubrics will have to be updated. I must admit, I used the free site to do mine. It made my life a bit easier.
